FCSBM Denounces Obama Directive on Transgender Bathrooms

Florida Coalition of School Board Members Speaks up for Local Control in Education

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Coalition of School Board Members (FCSBM) today condemned a directive from the Obama administration that requires educators to let students use bathrooms according to their chosen gender identity, rather than birth certificate. The administration’s directive runs counter to the FCSBM’s Home Rule values which provide accountability through elected school boards.

“The Obama administration's message is ‘we don’t trust local leaders,’” said Erika Donalds, FCSBM President. “It is the definition of intrusive, and it flies in the face of local control in education.”

“President Obama is opening Pandora’s box in the ever-increasing, unconstitutional federal interference in local educational policy. We will continue to speak up for what we know is best for our communities and schools.”

The Florida Coalition of School Board Members is a non-partisan non-profit (501c3) individual membership organization for elected school board members and candidates. To learn more, visit www.fcsbm.org.
