FCSBM Celebrates President Trump’s Reversal of the Obama Directive on Transgender Bathrooms, Locker Rooms, and Overnight Hotel Stays
Florida Coalition of School Board Members Speaks up for Local Control in Education
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Coalition of School Board Members (FCSBM) on May 13th 2016 condemned a directive from the Obama administration that required educators to let students use bathrooms according to their chosen gender identity, rather than birth certificate. The administration’s directive ran counter to the FCSBM’s Home Rule values which provide accountability through elected school boards.
“The Trump administration's message is ‘we trust local leaders,’” said Shawn Frost, FCSBM President. “It maintains protections against bullying, while allowing for the safety and privacy of ALL students by demonstrating trust in local control of education.”
“President Obama opened Pandora’s box in the ever-increasing, unconstitutional federal interference in local educational policy for purely political reasons. President Trump hit the brakes and is allowing time for case law to be settled. This reversal allows boards to make policies which administrators can enforce for the benefit of our communities and schools.”
The Florida Coalition of School Board Members is a non-partisan non-profit (501c3) individual membership organization for elected school board members and candidates. To learn more, visit www.fcsbm.org.
