The Florida Coalition of School Board Members applauds passage of the Religious Liberty Act by the Florida Senate.
“One of FCSBM’s core values reflects the belief that the family is the chief decision maker in the education process. This means we must have state and local policies that allow a student to continue living fully by their family’s beliefs and practices. It’s time to stop persecuting students for their religious beliefs when grading assignments or limiting students’ reading choices because they contain religious content.” -Shawn Frost, FSBM president
As a nonpartisan organization with conservative core values, we find it troubling that a fundamental American principle such as religious liberty became a partisan issue in the Florida Senate. We were greatly encouraged to see its House companion Bill 303 pass unanimously from the bipartisan Prek-12 Quality Subcommittee on March 14th and again unanimously passed out of the House Education Committee today.
This gives our members hope that this common-sense clarification - that our First Amendment rights endure in an educational setting - will pass the Legislature and be signed into law as it has in so many other states.
The Florida Coalition of School Board Members is a non-partisan non-profit (501c3) individual membership organization for elected school board members and candidates. To learn more, visit www.fcsbm.org.
